RICK’s Tucson Office provided engineering design and construction services to create a roundabout located at Saguaro Ranch. This roundabout provides a separation between public and private improvements as well as providing an aesthetically pleasing entry. Traffic roundabouts, in engineering practice, are utilized to channel approaching vehicles, control intersection speeds, and maintain yield control of entering traffic.
The uses of slitter islands provides safety and function by separating entering and exiting traffic, deflect and slow entering traffic, and provide pedestrian protection. The raised center island provides function for landscaping, while the mountable curb and track able concrete allows larger wheel-based vehicles the ability to safely navigate the traffic condition. The geometry of the roundabout at Saguaro Ranch was determined by the USDOT (United Stated Department of Transportation) design guidelines for roundabouts.
