RICK Announces New Leadership Team in Tucson Land Survey Department

RICK is excited to announce our Tucson Land Survey Department is stepping into a new era of leadership.

Following the retirement of Doug Schneider, who led Tucson’s survey team for more than 25 years, we’re carrying forward his legacy with a refreshed leadership team.

“We are excited to announce the promotion of Brian Laird to Director of Survey Operations and the hire of Skip Pomeroy as Survey Manager. Brian and Skip each bring 30 years of high-level surveying industry experience to the RICK Tucson Survey team.” —Kevin Hall, P.E., Principal of the RICK Tucson Office

In addition to Brian and Skip, Sean Laird has also been promoted to Field Supervisor, completing our leadership team with a seasoned professional whose expertise connects both field and office operations. All together, they form a well-rounded team ready to lead our Tucson survey operations forward.

Brian Laird

Brian Laird’s professional reach extends beyond his role at RICK. He is a founding member of the United States Institute of Building Documentation and remains active in the California Land Surveyors Association, the Arizona Professional Land Surveyors, and the Arizona Builders Alliance (ABA). Over the years, Brian has supported large-scale projects across Arizona and the southwest, including developing topographic mapping and orthophotography for the 13,000-acre Whetstone Ranch in Benson, Arizona. He also has contributed to the Colorado River Aqueduct Repair and Rehabilitation Improvements Project.

“Brian virtually grew up in the Arizona surveying industry: he is the son, grandson, and nephew of Arizona surveyors. He began his career in RICK’s Tucson office and has distinguished himself as a respected leader in reality capture and geographic information systems (GIS) technology, some of the leading-edge tools in the surveying industry.” —Kevin Hall

Skip Pomeroy

Skip Pomeroy joins RICK with more than 35 years of land surveying experience, including 12 years as the chief surveyor for Tucson Water. Skip is licensed in several states and is an active member of the Arizona Professional Land Surveyors organization. His standout work on the Shirley Scott Southeast Houghton Area Recharge Project, in which he led boundary surveys and conducted topographic aerial surveys using UAS/UAV technology, demonstrates his commitment to excellence. Skip will ensure that our projects are executed efficiently and with the highest-quality standards.

Sean Laird

Sean Laird, who has been on our field survey crews for over 25 years and is part of the Laird family surveying dynasty, has been promoted to Field Supervisor. Throughout his career at RICK, he has served in various roles, including crew member, analyst, and survey coordinator, all of which have given him a comprehensive understanding of our operations. Nearly all of Sean’s career has included the Gladden Farms and Gladden II master-planned communities in the northwest Tucson region, performing nearly every single aspect of the land surveying profession.

“With our new leadership team of Brian, Skip, and Sean in place, we’re ready to capitalize on the legacy of Doug Schneider, who was dedicated to mentoring young professionals and bolstering the survey profession through his work with APLS and the National Society of Professional Surveyors. We’re equipped to expand our impact on the Tucson and Southern Arizona community.” —Kevin Hall

With strong leadership in place in Tucson, we’re looking ahead to new opportunities and growth in Arizona and beyond. We’re excited for the fresh perspective this team brings and the impact these leaders will have on our projects and communities we serve.
