We are thrilled to announce that RICK’s Human Resources (HR) team was recognized as a finalist for HR Team of the Year by the San Diego HR Forum at the organization’s annual awards event on September 27th. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the HR team’s hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture and driving our company forward.

This recognition was awarded to HR teams who have offered significant contributions to their companies and truly exemplified the definition of teamwork. RICK’s HR team was primarily recognized for developing and implementing a new employee wellness program called “RICKFIT” in November of 2023.
The RICKFIT program accelerates culture, community, and wellness at RICK. The program has six major components: mental, financial, social, environmental, physical, and emotional. RICKFIT is tied to the core values of our company, our community focus, and every employee across the company. It offers monthly challenges that create company connection though health and well-being:
- During Mental Health Month, employees participated in Nami walks across the West and in Liberty Station in San Diego. RICK raised 40% above the team’s fundraising goal and engaged all employees and business units while giving back to the community.
- For “Bike Anywhere Day” in San Diego, RICK hosted 9,000 community bike riders with a western-themed bike pit stop.
- RICK’s HR team also hosted a “Love Your Heart” event, engaging over 40% of workforce members in taking blood pressure readings, giving them the right tools to measure their well-being.
- The team also implemented the use of the Walking Spree app and had over 50% company-wide participation in challenges supporting community events. RICK’s employees have walked to New York and back four times collectively as a company!

In addition to the RICKFIT program, the HR team has consistently gone above and beyond in efforts to support our employees and enhance our organizational effectiveness. From innovative recruitment strategies to robust employee development programs, their initiatives have not only attracted top talent but have also ensured that our current team members thrive. The team’s focus on inclusivity and diversity has created an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute.
This award reflects not only the accomplishments of the HR team but also the collaborative spirit they’ve nurtured across the organization. They have worked closely with various departments, listening to employee feedback and ensuring that every voice is heard.
