RICK is part of a highly-qualified team of design professionals who, with Mayor Sanders’ and Philanthropist Dr. Jacobs’ oversight, will plan and engineer the design effort for San Diego’s most historic landmark, Balboa Park. Balboa Park, a highly popular and world-renowned urban park undergoing site development plans, will regain 6.3 acres of recreational use property.
To support the planning and engineering design effort, RICK prepared site development plans for a new access road, a bypass bridge, a parking structure, and several pedestrian use areas, such as plazas, promenades, and a rooftop plaza over the parking structure. Additionally, RICK performed landscape design services, grading and alignment studies, traffic studies, created three-dimensional digital terrain models, and surveyed existing conditions.
Due to the high-profile nature of this project, RICK has maintained constant communication with the mayor’s office, City staff, and public interests groups throughout San Diego. RICK has stayed nimble while the plan amendments, site development permit, and environmental impact reports continue to pass through the City’s approval processes.
Once the redevelopment is complete, it will be opened to the public for the first time since 1917!
