Citrus Tower is an iconic office building in downtown Riverside that occupies premiere real estate with quality freeway visibility. The project involved the redevelopment of an 0.82-acre site into a 6-story, 133,000-square foot office building with a 4-level, 453-space subterranean parking structure. The site is bound by SR-91, the Ninth Street/91 Freeway on-ramp and Lime Street and University Avenue, two of Riverside’s busiest streets and key corridors into downtown.
RICK provided civil engineering, traffic engineering, and surveying and mapping services for the Citrus Tower development. A critical component for the RICK design team was navigating work progress during Caltrans’ simultaneous work efforts of widening of the SR-91 freeway that is adjacent to the Citrus Tower site. Additionally, RICK coordinated with the City of Riverside and Caltrans for the shoring and excavation of the building’s four-level subterranean parking structure with zero building setback, as well as the relocation of an existing electrical switch that serves all of downtown Riverside.
RICK’s survey crew was responsible for all the staking for Citrus Tower, including on-site and off-site work. A key task successfully executed by the survey team was conducting a nine-month shoring monitoring process until the final podium deck was installed and cured. Critical to the success of Citrus Tower was assuring the accuracy of the building layout on all floors in order for the pre-fabricated GFRC to be installed. A complete building (iron and bent plate) certification was completed in the month of October and the findings where to be with hundredths of design.
