RICK was hired by Performance Mechanical, Inc. (an EMCOR company) to provide as-built surveying services. The scope included phase-based laser scanning to support construction of Phase 2 of the Los Angeles County Sanitation District Power Generation Facility in Carson, California.
RICK performed 3D laser scans of the facility to identify pre-existing pipe run size and locations and new tie-point locations from Phase 1 construction. Conventional surveys were used to establish dimensional control and to provide quality control checks of the laser scan data. Complex site conditions were then captured with the use of 3D laser scans and a phase-based scanner, collecting 500,000 points per second. Approximately 90 scans were collected to cover 5 distinct work areas in 2 days, including subterranean utility corridors, raised platforms, and complex piping runs. Deliverables included registration reports, 3D point clouds, and web-based interactive TruViews.
Our client subsequently used the point cloud to correct-up construction documents to match existing conditions and finalize the detailing efforts prior to material procurement and construction.
