RICK worked hand-in-hand with the City of San Diego and the Jacob Center of Innovation to design and construct a complete street located within the City of San Diego’s Encanto Neighborhood Community Planning Area. The Market-Euclid Complete Street, located by the Market Creek Town Center, was particularly important because it surrounds the second-busiest trolley station and intermodal bus transit station in San Diego.
The Market-Euclid Complete Street project included public street enhancements to improve safety and mobility for public transit, vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian users. The project widened and replaced approximately 56,000 square feet of sidewalk, widening Market Street to allow for raised landscaped medians and additional on-street parking. The former and latter will accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians by ensuring safer vehicle passage crosswalks, medians, and curb extensions, which will also serve a dual purpose to calm traffic. The design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure improvements included new and expanded sidewalks, bicycle facilities, crosswalks, medians, and curb extensions to calm traffic. The engineering, design, and construction revitalized the neighborhood by improving air quality, beautifying the streetscape, calming traffic, reducing vehicular collisions with pedestrians and cyclists, and improving the overall health of residents.
