RICK worked hand-in-hand with the City of Newport Beach to provide civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the rehabilitation of Ocean Boulevard and Poppy Avenue. The project included a pavement reconstruction of 1,500 feet (Ocean Boulevard) and a complete street reconstruction of 1,350 feet (Poppy Avenue). For both the former and latter, RICK prepared conceptual streetscape plans and construction documents.
RICK’s proposed design honored the local homeowner voices and integrated their vision while maintaining drainage components and ADA compliance throughout the corridor. For example, RICK’s design included a multi-palette landscape parkway approach, in which individual homeowners were given the option to plant in their frontage. Lastly, the landscape replacement in the residential parkways of Poppy Avenue required a design that met City standards and appeased nearby local residents.
