The expansion of the Scottsdale Fashion Square was an enormous project with a contract value of $40M to add nearly half a million square feet to the complex. The expansion centered around a planning solution to bring the center physically closer to historic Scottsdale. By crossing Camelback Road with a carefully designed overhead pedestrian connection, Fashion Square engages the city rather than keeping the center as an “island.” Also, recognizing the draw of Arizona’s desert resort lifestyle, the center celebrates the style of Scottsdale’s great resort hotels with elements like inviting lobbies and a formal porte cochere.
The project consisted of the major expansion of the mall and parking to include two new department stores and three multi-level parking garages with a retail and vehicular bridge across Camelback Road. Extensive survey was required for design purposes. Design of Camelback Road and Goldwater Boulevard was similarly required. Street and utility improvements were required, as well as extensive on-site design of storm drainage and utilities. Scottsdale Fashion Square stands far apart from its counterparts as a model of design and integration within the character of the area.
