SR-163, intersected by four state highways, services much of San Diego’s intraregional travel by linking the greater San Diego metropolitan area, residential communities, and major employment centers. RICK, on behalf of the City of San Diego and in conjunction with Caltrans, SDG&E, Cox Communications, AT&T, and nearby property owners, replaced and reconfigured the western half of the existing southbound interchange.
RICK provided the following enhancements to the SR-163/Clairemont Mesa Boulevard Interchange project: ADA facilities for pedestrians, additional bike lane striping on local streets, increased number of lanes, installation of high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes as well as a ramp metering system, removal of free-right turn movements, signalized intersections, drought-tolerant landscaping, and a retention basin that served as the main water quality feature.
