As part of the City of Sacramento’s Traffic Light Synchronization Program (TLSP) projects, RICK prepared and implemented coordination timing for 34 traffic signals along two roadway corridors. Twenty-one intersections were retimed along the Pocket Road/Meadowview Road/Mack Road corridor, and 13 intersections were retimed along the Folsom Boulevard roadway corridor. Tasks performed include data collection, travel time runs, synchro analysis, coordination with City staff, and timing recommendations. The recommended timing plans were input into the D4 software, which controls the City’s traffic signals, tested with suitcase testers prior to implementation, and downloaded into each local controller.
After completion of the project, follow-up travel runs were performed along both corridors, which showed that for Pocket Road/Meadowview Road/Mack Road, westbound travel time was reduced by 12% during the AM peak period and eastbound travel time was reduced by 12% during the PM peak period. For the Folsom Boulevard corridor, westbound travel time was reduced by 5% during the AM peak period and eastbound travel time was reduced by 9% during the PM peak period.
