RICK was contracted to provide civil engineering documents for the expansion of the Valencia Town Center in Santa Clarita, CA. The project was overseen by Westfield Corporation and will expand the current mall building with 10 new buildings clustered in a “lifestyles” outdoor plaza concept.
The scope of the project included topographic survey and boundary verification, grading and drainage plans, utility plans, retaining wall profiles, erosion control plans, horizontal control plans, offsite improvement plans, Storm Water Management Plans (SUSMPs), hydrology, hydraulics, easements, permitting, and associated coordination with the multidisciplinary consultant team. Design challenges included design of new building pads over an existing sloping parking lot, existing utility conflicts, space requirements of the plaza corridors, and drainage constraints stemming from unknowns in future tenant-improvement-based plans. An expedited schedule was employed for the project, and approval was based on meeting a three-month permitting window.
